A Consistent Pre-Round Warmup Sets the Tone for Better Golf

One of the best habits a golfer can build is a consistent pre-round warmup. Too often, players rush from the parking lot to the first tee and expect their body, swing, and touch to be ready immediately. A smart warmup helps us loosen up, find rhythm, and begin the round with more confidence. It also gives us a chance to prepare physically and mentally so we can swing more freely and make better decisions from the very first shot. Our warmup should start with some stretching and balance exercises, see Alexis’ video for details. After stretching we can go to the practice range. At the practice range we can start with our compression drill that was featured in our May 1 newsletter, this would be followed up by some full swing wedges, short irons, mid irons and then a few Driver swings. Remember this is a warmup and not a time to refine our swing and make random changes. From the practice tee we can head to the practice green, see this editions featured swing tip for more details. On our way to the first tee is a suitable time to remind ourselves of the three expectations that we should limit ourselves to on the golf course.
Commit to trying our best on every shot.
Remember to talk nicely to ourselves.
Stay focused on making good decisions for the entire round.
